“Eden”

Watching waves slowly crash,
Try to beach themselves,
And leave the world of the water.

These waves dream to escape,
Dream to find a better life on land,
Much as we try to find lives of our own.

The waves try their best,
Moving as far inland as possible,
Leaving their nature behind.

Life may be difficult,
And the lure of new hope burns strong,
But something can be said for staying put
There’s comfort in the status quo.

And these waves,
They make their sojourn forward,
They press to feel the bustle of life,
They pine for the hectic nature we embrace,
Far too quick to understand what they already have

These waves push to escape the solitude, the ennui,
But these waves know not that it is thus that keeps them alive,
That it is the calm that preserves,
And that they are leaving Eden.
