"Puzzle"

Your words hurt as they dig themselves under my skin,
As they find their way through my blood stream and into my heart,
They slowly degrade the walls of my arteries,
Leaving them to crack with each tortured beat of my heart,
Letting everything I am flow into the recesses,
Wasting everything I ever spent on you,
And leaving me with only dust to circulate,
To try to fill the void left when you withdrew,
The vapor of your spirit no longer filling my lungs,
No longer diffusing into my blood,
No longer giving me the necessary fuel to continue,
I stand as a half formed creature,
Trying to balance myself upon the creaky foundation,
Afraid of falling,
Knowing that you're not there to catch me,
And that I would shatter into pieces,
Fragments of your sculpture cluttering the floor,
The jagged points slowly melting,
Falling through the cracks,
Each dripping as a tear running down your cheek,
Until you've cried all of me away,
And then all that's left is me,
Shattered, broken, in pieces lying in the dark,
A puzzle waiting to be put together,
Only you knowing how,
Not sure if you'll ever open the box and try.
